My webapp of the year: Nozbe (for Getting Things Done)

Screen_shot_2010-12-28_at_11

This year I switched to using web applications for managing my projects—I mostly try to follow Getting Things Done. Formerly a user of the excellent Omnifocus, I wanted to go platform agnostic.

Nozbe is an excellent web app for personal project and time management. My favorite feature is that it can be managed via email—essential when so many of my actions are started from email.

With a mobile site, and iPhone, Android and iPad app support, you can take your tasks in your pocket too. For bonus points, Nozbe offers Evernote and Google Calendar integration.

If getting organized is on your New Year list of resolutions, give Nozbe a whirl.

Piwik is a full-featured open source web analytics tool

Piwik is a PHP MySQL software program that you download and install on your own webserver. At the end of the five minute installation process you will be given a JavaScript tag. Simply copy and paste this tag on websites you wish to track (or use an existing plugin to do it automatically for you) and access your analytics reports in real time.

Web analytics started for me with open source ('analog', anyone?) so it's nice to see that the open source solutions are starting to keep pace with commercial web services.

Exceptional web typography makes Quora stand out

A continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it.

Quora looks like another StackOverflow Q&A site, but has a few things that make it interesting. Chief among these is the best looking web typography I've seen in a long while. It's a pleasure to read, and evokes a professional aesthetic that I think is reflected in the site's tone and content.
